  • The FAST Lab, a part of Graduate School of Computer Engineering at Ajou University was founded by Prof. Youngjae Kim in fall 2015. We investigate a wide spectrum of design and implementation challenges for IoT, Cloud, Big Data and Mobile Platforms with an emphasis on performance optimization of system software and middleware for applications. We also research on next generation non-volatile memory and storage system technologies, distributed file systems, and integrated technologies of memory and storage in both operating systems and distributed computing systems. 
    Recently FAST lab has been awarded the research grant (period: 2015-2019) for developing a High-Performance Big Data platform by Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (MSIP) in collaboration with leading organizations of UNIST and KISTI.

  • We research Tactical Communication Networks and 4G Mobile Communication Networks based on knowledge about PHY, MAC, and Network layers of Wireless/ Mobile/ Tactical Communications. Now we are performing the ITRC project from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and some other projects from government and industries. The ITRC (Information Technology Research Center) project is an essential project to train highly skilled students and improve base technology for the national IT area.
    In the Tactical Communication Area:
    - Airborne Communication Network: MAC/PHY techniques for airborne communication networks such as Link-16, Next Generation Tactical Data Link, Korea Tactical Data Link, and VDL (VHF Data Link)
    - Army Tactical Information Communication Network: MAC techniques for terrain networks, Transmission control techniques for tactical mesh networks, IPv6 for tactical networks
    - Satellite communication: Resource management schemes in a MF-TDMA satellite network, Handover algorithms in a multi-beam satellite network.
    In the 4G Communication Area
    - High-speed OFDMA MAC for WiBro (WiMAX) system
    - Efficient routing techniques for wireless mesh networks

  • The Knowledge-intensive Software Engineering (NiSE) Research Group performs various researches to improve understanding, representing, and modeling of the complex problem domain from the universe of discourse (UoD), for the design, development and analysis of the software-intensive systems within socio-technical environments, with an emphasis on delivering state-of-the-art research and transferring innovative ideas into practice, by supporting all aspects of requirements engineering in knowledge-intensive software engineering process, for designing and building the next generation software systems.

  • Mobile PLANETs Lab conduct research on all mobile-related issues such as mobile platform, network, security, and service, inheriting former Wireless Networks Lab, since 2010 at Ajou University, Korea. We especially focus on battery-efficient systems and protocols for 5G mobile services by looking at joint management of radio, network and CPU resources based on state-of-the-art techniques: multicore scheduling, machine learning, dynamic spectrum access, multimedia service, and D2D.

  • We have three topics related with computer visual processing. The first is Computer Vision. It is a field of study how a computer figures out the real world properly. Second, Image Processing is focused on how to produce a suitable digital image for human visual system. To do this, we need data acquisition, image understanding or processing, analysis, and representation. Last, we study about 3D Computer Graphics including modeling, rendering and animation. 
    Our main topics of research are Image processing, Pattern matching, 3D Construction and Image Compression.

  • We focus on the field of an effective development method for large-scale software systems such as ubiquitous systems, intelligent transportation systems, military systems, etc. Research interests include new application models, frameworks, and development methods for large-scale software systems. For research, we have proposed a community computing model for effectively developing dynamic ubiquitous applications based on the metaphor of community. Currently, we are trying to develop a role-based application model and its implementation framework which will be applied to various areas including ubiquitous applications, social network services, military applications, etc. We are also interested in the area of information transportation systems, in which we study a way of improving safety using advanced technologies such as ubiquitous networks, agent systems, etc.

  • Since 1997, The Internet Security Laboratory has conducted research about network security and development of access control models under Professor Hong-jin Yeh at Ajou University.
    We have enhanced study of access control modeling and information system development, which will be proper in ubiquitous environments from now on, together with detection and prevention of invasion through networks. Now we are researching security among sensor networks. We have produced many papers from research issues. We are performing module development and application possible security methods. The main issue of this laboratory is general understanding about sensor networks and each level of communication and deducing security problems in communication and service; after all, we are trying to find solutions and techniques to deal with these problems.

  • The Information Communication & Security (ICS) laboratory started in 1985 on the basis of history and tradition of Professor Kim Dongkyoo, and has been carrying out research about convergence security since 2011 by Professor Shon Taeshik. The main research fields of our lab are Secure Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles, Digital Forensics, Smart grid Security, Anti-dump Memory Protection, Open Mobile Platform Security, Cloud computation Platform and Service Security, Abnormal Behavior Detection, etc.
