Introduction

Our college, since its establishment, went through the Department of General Education and the College of General Studies, and was reorganized into the College of Basic Education in 2008. In 2015, it changed its name to Dasan University College, and has been operating under this name until now. Dasan University College presents educational programs that fosters 'Dasanian Talents' with distributed requirements for understanding of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, as well as basic knowledge, communication skills, and comprehensive thinking abilities.

To promote independent intellectual development and citizenship, the college offers diverse courses in four areas: history and philosophy, literature and arts, human and society, and nature and science, through its distributed requirements. In particular, we strives to innovate the general education curriculum through AFL (Ajou Flagship Lectures), which promotes large-scale lectures, and small-sized classes that aim for high-intensity interactions.

The term 'basic knowledge for majors' refers to the abilities necessary for students to take advanced courses in their majors. To enhance the basic knowledge of incoming students, Dasan University College provides specialized education in basic disciplines such as mathematics, science, and English, tailored to different levels and purposes. Additionally, the college offers courses in Korean Writing and English to develop communication skills, which are essential for students to understand other disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary thinking.

To enhance the basic knowledge mentioned above, we provide specialized education in Basic Science and Mathematics (BSM) and English at different levels based on placement tests for freshmen. The college supports customized learning for students at different levels through various supplementary programs (such as tutoring) for subjects that must be completed for major entrance, including BSM (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology), English, and writing. In the future, the college aims to renovate teaching methods that enhance interactions, such as blended learning, to enable students to participate in learning actively, and to meet the needs of students who have difficulties in learning through individualized, student-tailored learning support platforms.

Furthermore, Dasan University College has established the Center for Communication and the Dasan Basic Education Research Institute under its umbrella to cultivate Dasanian Talents through various extracurricular programs, such as Classical Festival, Ajou Debate, Ajou Communication Ability Test (ACAT) and tutoring on Korean writing. We also operate the International Liberal Arts Division, which aims to provide Korean language education and understanding of Korean culture for foreign freshman students.
