The BK21 (Brain Korea 21) is a project funded by the Ministry of Education of Korean government with a goal to develop world-class graduate schools and train talented researchers in Korea. The Department of Computer Engineering at Ajou University was granted the first stage of the BK21 project in 1999-2005. In the second stage of the BK21 project (2006-2009), one research group from the Department of Computer Engineering received the project and successfully finished it. Recently, two research groups our graduate school succeeded in getting the third stage of the BK21 project (BK21 Plus) since 2013. Based on the funding size, our graduate school ranks within five among all the Universities in Korea in the area of computer engineering. These achievements show that the level of research performed at the Department of Computer Engineering at Ajou University is very high.
