What are Great Ajou Classics?

- Great Ajou Classics is the title of a Classic Program at Ajou University.

- The Classics Debate Competition follows regular debate rules and students can form teams to read one volume (several volumes, if appropriate) of the Great Ajou Classics.

- The Classics Debate Competition will be held in May and announced in April. However, to give students sufficient time to read the book, a Competition announcement will be made in advance of 1 year.

- The rules of the Classical Debate Competition apply mutatis mutandis to the basic rules of the academic debate, but considering the size of the participating team, the detailed discussion rules will be finalized at the Constitutional Rule Meeting set by all participating teams after the application is completed.

Classics Marathon Reading Day

- Any member of the Ajou University community, including students, professors, and graduates, can take part by reading an excerpt of a book for about ten minutes in a relay.

- It was named “Classics Marathon Reading Day” because it reads a thick classic as if it were completing a marathon.

- This event seeks fun benefits, and pleasure together, therefore everyone can participate in the event at convenience and read as much as want or listen in a comfortable posture.

- Participants are free to come and go as they please. There is no need to stay for the entire reading marathon.

Brown Bag Lectures (BBL)

Ajou University’s Distinguished Classics Lecture—Ajou Classics Brown Bag Lectures

Ajou Classics Brown Bag Lectures (BBL), first launched in the second semester of 2013 at Dasan University College, is a part of the ACE Project aiming to expand education in Ajou Classics.

This is an extra-curricular lecture held at lunchtime, similar to lectures in prestigious universities abroad, but is closer to a more refined lecture on Classics as strict rules are in place for the consumption of food and beverages, requires a reservation, and maximizes the use of a computing environment.

Ajou Classics BBL, along with the Great Ajou Classics Contest held every November, offers Ajou University students a way to read the Classics—part of humanity’s intellectual legacy, but challenging to understand.

During the 10th Ajou BBL in 2019, ten professors who wrote introductions to the Great Ajou Classics took part as lecturers and guided students through the intensive world of classical literature.
